Speak Out - a signposting service from the Chartered Banker Institute

The Speak Out service is available during the Institute’s office hours

Service available during business hours.

“Speak Out” is aimed at providing an alternative route for members to air professional concerns and receive signposting support about workplace concerns.

It is vital for banking professionals – and the wider industry – to have options to understand how to report wrongdoing in the workplace. The Institute is the UK's professional body for retail and commercial bankers. In our role supporting the public interest, it’s important to ensure that our members have somewhere they can go if they feel they want to discuss whether a professional ethical dilemma should be reported, or to find out how to raise a concern.

Often the issue can be resolved relatively easily. Please see the information sheets below that provide guidance. You can also launch an anonymous chat with one of the team at any point if you want further information or to clarify a situation you face by pressing the Launch Chat button to the right.

The ‘Speak Out’ service is designed to support you with understanding and guidance on how to report wrongdoing in the workplace. However, in these uncertain times it is normal that you feel more anxious than usual. Our chat function remains open during normal Institute hours should you wish to get in touch. However, there are some additional sites which you might find of use:

The Bank Workers Charity: there are many resources available here to support your wellbeing. This includes tools to assess your resilience and stress levels with tailored guidance on what you can do about this. For more information visit https://www.bwcharity.org.uk/.

Protect: The independent whistleblowing service remains open to offer advice. It has also developed a list of FAQs relevant to the current pandemic which tackle issues individuals may be facing, particularly with regard to adhering to government guidance about working arrangements.
